quick notes
June 1, 2009
- A few days ago I sent a new story to a US-based magazine. The story was rejected, but on the plus side, the editors did send me a personal letter, and not one of those cold form rejections. They said, your story was very close, but not quite what we’re looking for right now. Please send another, soonest?
That is so cute, Please send another, soonest.
Er.
Unfortunately, I don’t have anything else, at the moment.
Also, it’s possible that what they just sent me was a form rejection. Maybe they’re all just nice and cute, over there at that magazine.
- Anyway. I re-read my manuscript (no changes, or perhaps I’m just stubborn) and sent it to another publication. Because I am a trooper like that.
- The people of Expanded Horizons have sent the contract. Yay. Story should be out by this month. Now here’s to hoping the check won’t get lost in the mail. That would suck. If only I can find the heart to trust PayPal.
- I just finished V for Vendetta and found it more fascinating and realistic than the film. The film’s still very good though.
- I seriously need another story to lose myself in. Another story to read, or create. Another TV series to follow. Another film to see.
- I wonder if the new Terminator will fit the bill. I doubt it.
- William Hurt is awesome, seriously. My respect for him after seeing A History of Violence years ago has now turned into a mind-numbing fangirling after Mr. Brooks (which I saw only recently). Ack. Now I’m trying to get my hands on every film he’s been in. Can’t find Kiss of the Spider-Woman though. I’ve re-watched A.I. (he’s Prof. Hobby; for some reason his line “I suppose that makes me the blue fairy” gave me the craziest ideas). I even watched Vantage Point, for goodness’ sake.
- Wish he’d do a podcast for The New Yorker. William Hurt reading a short story/novel out loud, with that voice of his. WIN.
- Things to look forward to before the week ends: dinners, a movie, a trip to see some relatives, more space back home because the brother’s off to college. Hope he doesn’t crack.
- The Hayden Kho – Katrina Halili Senate hearing is a waste of time and taxpayers’ money. Surely you realize that.
- I want to buy myself a new gadget. I’m still waiting for a sign.
